Terra Confluence 2024 Celebrated in UMass Amherst News for Pioneering Climate Action and Civic Engagement
The University of Massachusetts Amherst, a public research university located in Massachusetts, United States, has highlighted the success of Terra Confluence 2024 in its university news platform. Their article underscores TC 2024 event's role as a collaboration among international institutions, informal learning organizations, and science communicators. This climate change-centric series leverages educational structures to embed content through the lenses of climate action, environmental sustainability, and social justice in education.
TC 2024, a hybrid event held in conjunction with Earth Day (April 22, 2024), was not just a gathering but a movement. It brought together experts, enthusiasts, and community members from across the globe.
Hosted by the Global Climate Association (India),
In partnership with researchers from:
NSDC Institutional Chapter at UMass Amherst (United States)
Mount Holyoke College (United States)
HerWILL (Bangladesh and United States)
CoJourn (United States)
Perceval Foundation (The Netherlands)
"These partnerships fostered a rich dialogue series and engaging competitive events, all designed to inspire participants to see themselves as knowledge creators and change makers", says Dr. Chakravarty, Founder of the Global Climate Association, and the host of TC 2024.
The initiative's success is part of a broader effort to develop a theory of action for climate and environmental education aimed at civic engagement. By focusing on critical thinking, problem-solving, and active participation, TC 2024 prepares global citizens who are ready to take informed actions toward sustainable practices.
The UMass Amherst NSDC Chapter Leadership's involvement underscores their commitment to advancing education that not only informs but also transforms, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDG). This approach enhances the educational experience by providing students with the tools and knowledge to impact their world positively.
